The Second Edition of the HIPAA Survival Guide does not make any substantive changes to the First Edition. It "simply" provides greater interactivity by providing clickable links to more current information where applicable. The HITECH Act has indeed proven to be transformational. In order to deal more effectively with its changing regulatory landscape we have decided not to maintain the PDF version going forward, but rather maintain the most current information on this site, which has now become the HITECH Survival Guide. That said, the PDF version of the HIPAA Survival Guide continues to be downloaded in significant numbers and still provides a good "forest from the trees" view of HIPAA. The HIPAA regulations themselves have changed little. The HITECH Act builds upon these regulations and in no way repudiates them.
This guide is not intended to be legal advice, nor is it a fully comprehensive legalistic interpretation of the new regulations. Rather, it is information that providers should know as they move forward with EHR adoption.
